The AJ First Building Award – in association with Robin Ellis Design and Construction.
This prize goes to the best example of a first stand-alone building by a British architect practising within the European Union.
Eligibility : Any building or structure (including bridges) whether new, restored, rehabilitated or converted which contains an element of executed design work
The award is judged by a panel comprising:
Barrie Evans, Buildings Editor of the Architects’ Journal; Robin Ellis of Robin Ellis Design & Construction; and Alex de Rijke of de Rijke Marsh Morgan, winners of the 2003 AJ First Building Award.

In-Between, a contemporary take on the traditional terrace built between existing houses in North London, designed by Annalie Riches, Silvia Ullmayer and Barti Garibaldo, has won this year’s AJ First Building Award in association with Robin Ellis Design & Construction.

The long established British Construction Industry Awards which recognise overall excellence in the design, construction and delivery of buildings and civil engineering have been further enhanced by a new category for 2001 - The Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.

In 2001 Tony Blair endorsed an accolade that celebrates the excellence achieved both in design quality and procurement practices - the Prime Minister's Award for Better Public Building.

The project had to have been completed since 1 January, 2003, and come into use by 31 January, 2004.
The Award is open to any project commissioned by or on behalf of central or local government or by a grant-aided organisation, regardless of size and budget.
Our judges look for high standards in design, construction, delivery and operational performance.
Also, the building project must be first-class in terms of financial management, procurement method, and social and environmental value. Please see the previous three years' winners and finalists for a further understanding of what makes a good public building.
The PM's Award is a special category within the British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA). It is jointly sponsored by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the Office of Government Commerce (OGC).

Supported by the Crown Estate (http://www.crownestate.co.uk/index_4.shtml) the Crown Estate Conservation Award This prize is presented to the best work of conservation that demonstrates the successful restoration and/or adaptation of an architecturally significant building.

The award is judged by Richard Griffiths, conservation architect; David Pickles, Senior Architect in the Conservation Department of English Heritage; Giles Worsley, architecture critic of the Daily Telegraph; Roger Bright, Chief Executive of The Crown Estate; and Tony Chapman, RIBA Head of Awards.

HOK International Limited were the Crown Estate Conservation Award winners 2004 for the conservation of The King’s Library at the British Museum, built by Sir Robert Smirke between 1823 and 1827 to house the Royal Libraries of George II and George III, and the first completed part of his grand design for the new building of the British Museum.

The EAAE prize for "Writings in Architectural Education" rewards the best unpublished writings for or on architectural education every two years. The winners are published in the News Sheet.VELUX (Denmark) is sponsoring the EAAE Prize 2002 as well as the 2004 edition.
So far two successful student competitions ran and the EAAE Prize for Writings on Teaching Architecture, has been awarded three times, in 1991, 1993 and 1995. The sponsor for these prizes was YTONG (Belgium).AG2R (France) sponsors the EAAE student design competition Prize 2002-2003: "Building for the Elderly people".

Europan è un programma di concorsi per nuove architetture, comune ad un gruppo di paesi europei, che organizza concorsi di idee seguiti da realizzazioni aperti ai giovani architetti di tutta Europa.
Gli obiettivi sono di raccogliere nuove idee su un tema comune alle città europee, di facilitare il conferimento d’incarichi professionali a giovani progettisti capaci e, più in generale, di animare il dibattito fra le reti di professionisti e le Amministrazioni locali.

L'Associazione Europan è costituita dalle Associazioni nazionali dei dodici paesi che vi hanno aderito sottoscrivendo un patto di tipo federativo. Le Associazioni nazionali riuniscono rappresentanti del mondo dell'architettura, dei pubblici poteri, degli operatori e del mondo della ricerca, e lavorano all'elaborazione di ipotesi sull'avvenire dell'ambiente residenziale.

I concorsi di Europan ed Europan Italia sono promossi da Enti, Società e altro, i quali sono interessati a gestire in piena trasparenza concorsi, utilizzando l’esperienza e l’autorevolezza dell’Associazione Europan Italia e dell’Organismo europeo. Un'occasione di dibattito su sviluppo urbano e residenza
Il concorso è l'occasione per un confronto fra Amministratori pubblici, ricercatori, professionisti, sia a scala nazionale che a scala europea. Europan affronta attraverso ognuna delle sessioni i temi del rapporto fra residenza, evoluzione dei modi di vita, dinamiche urbane, bisogno di qualità e di riconversione dei quartieri urbani, in particolare di quelli periferici.
Una rete di scambi europei
Europan nasce dall'incontro di organizzazioni professionali e Amministrazioni pubbliche dei vari paesi europei. Le esperienze derivanti dalla realizzazione dei progetti sono sistematicamente confrontate ed analizzate con l'aiuto di esperti internazionali, in una serie di seminari aperti alle Amministrazioni partecipanti.
Nuove idee, nuovi progettisti
Europan ha scelto di aprire opportunità di lavoro ai giovani professionisti al di sotto di quarant'anni, per consentire loro di esprimere nuove idee progettuali, anche se non sono già inseriti in una rete di contatti con le Amministrazioni locali. Europan consente dunque alle Amministrazioni di rinnovare il proprio rapporto con i progettisti, aprendosi anche ad idee di architetti di altri paesi europei. L'innovazione è però mediata attraverso l'esigenza di realizzabilità e quindi di concretezza espressa negli enunciati del concorso di idee seguito da realizzazioni.

Avec pour objectif de reconnaître et d'encourager le mouvement de récupération de l'espace public en Europe, le Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) a développé, depuis ses débuts, une ligne de réflexion et d'activité dans ce domaine.
En 1999, le CCCB a ainsi organisé l'exposition La Reconquête de l'Europe : espace public urbain, 1980-1999 et il a créé, en l'an 2000, conjointement avec l'Institut Français d'Architecture, le Prix Européen de l'Espace Public Urbain, à fréquence biennale.
Devant le succès remporté par cette première édition, à laquelle ont été présentés plus de 80 projets provenant de 13 pays différents, The Architecture Foundation, le Nederlands Architectuurinstituut et l'Architekturzentrum Wien ont souhaité prendre part à l'organisation et à la diffusion de la deuxième édition du Prix (2002), laquelle a reçu plus de 100 projets venus de 16 pays européens.
Riche de cet effort conjoint, le CCCB a créé, dans le cadre du programme Gaudi, mis en place avec le soutien de la Commission européenne, et avec la collaboration des institutions organisant le Prix, les Archives Européennes de l'Espace Public Urbain, un site Internet qui montre une sélection des meilleurs projets candidats au Prix.

Pourront prendre part au concours aussi bien les organismes publics maître d'ouvrage que le ou les auteur(s) du projet. Les pays autorisés à participer sont les pays du continent européen, y compris les îles. C'est le jury du Prix qui décidera si une localité peut être considérée comme une ville ou non.

Le Prix sera honorifique et il sera attribué conjointement à l'organisme maître d'ouvrage et à l'auteur ou aux auteurs de l'ouvrage. Les lauréats du Prix Européen de l'Espace Public Urbain recevront une plaque commémorative qui sera installée dans l'espace public récompensé. Les lauréats ainsi que les nominés pour le Prix recevront un diplôme de participation.

Celui-ci comporte trois volets complémentaires qui ont fait l'objet d'une harmonisation à partir du 1er janvier 2000 et ont reçu une nouvelle appellation, à savoir : Médailles d'honneur, Prix du Patrimoine (auparavant Prix Europa Nostra) et le Prix du Fonds de Restauration (anciennement Prix du Fonds Europa Nostra).
Chacun de ces Prix offre, à sa manière, un encouragement et une reconnaissance à des réalisations exemplaires et/ou à l'engagement d'individus dans le domaine du patrimoine. L'Union européenne a pleinement reconnu l'importance et la valeur de ce Concours de Prix annuel.
Les Médailles d'honneur, première composante du Concours, sont décernées au titre de la reconnaissance du mérite d'une contribution exemplaire et durable d'une personne donnée à la protection et/ou à la mise en valeur du patrimoine européen, tant bâti que naturel. Les récompenses (Prix et Mention) viennent honorer des œuvres récentes (moins de deux ans), créées dans des pays couverts par le programme "Culture 2000". Leur objectif est de mettre en évidence la créativité contemporaine et de sensibiliser le public à l'ancrage social et culturel de l'architecture moderne dans les villes européennes.
Ce Prix biennal récompense l'excellence et l'innovation dans la conception, la technique et la construction d'oeuvres européennes et contribue à sensibiliser le public à l'importance culturelle de l'architecture contemporaine et à son impact sur le développement actuel et futur des villes d'Europe.

Prix 2003
Un jury international de neuf membres(1), composé d'architectes et d'experts reconnus dans le domamne, présidé par l'architecte britannique David Chipperfield, a sélectionné 41 oeuvres sur les 269 présentées et a visité cinq d'entre elles. Cette année, le bâtiment ayant reçu la Mention spéciale faisait partie de ces cinq oeuvres finalistes.
Le Prix couronne des œuvres récentes (moins de deux ans), réalisées dans les pays couverts par le programme «Culture 2000». Deux distinctions sont décernées lors de chaque édition: le Prix d'architecture contemporaine de l'Union européenne - Prix Mies van der Rohe, et la Mention spéciale «Jeune architecte» destinée aux architectes âgés de moins de 40 ans débutant leur carrière. En 2001, les récompenses ont été attribuées respectivement à Rafael Moneo pour le Kursaal Centre de San Sebastián en Espagne et à Florian Nagler pour le Kaufmann Holz Distribution Centre de Bobingen en Allemagne.
Le prix consiste en une somme d'argent de 50 000 euros, la Mention spéciale «Jeune architecte» étant quant à elle dotée de 10 000 euros. Les deux lauréats recevront en outre une sculpture de l'artiste catalan Xavier Corberó inspirée par le Pavillon Mies van der Rohe.
Cette cérémonie sera suivie le 29 mai 2003 par un symposium sur l'architecture européenne contemporaine au Collegi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya où seront présentées les œuvres récompensées ainsi que les autres œuvres sélectionnées par le jury. Une exposition des photographies et dessins des 41 œuvres retenues ainsi que des maquettes et des textes explicatifs voyagera ensuite dans plusieurs villes européennes et un catalogue de ces oeuvres sera édité.

La prochaine édition aura lieu le 11 avril 2005 à Barcelone

Il premio Compasso d'Oro ADI è il primo e il più autorevole premio europeo del settore, istituito nel 1954.
Nato da un'idea do Gio Ponti e per volontà dei grandi magazzini la Rinascente, ha lo scopo di mettere in valore la qualità del design italiano.
Dal 1964 viene gestito esclusivamente dall'ADI.

Gli oggetti premiati e segnalati in oltre quarant'anni di vita del premio sono raccolti nella Collezione storica del Premio Compasso d'Oro ADI, che ha sede a Cantù presso la Galleria del Design e dell'Arredamento del CLAC Centro Legno Arredo Cantù.
Oltre alla conservazione dei materiali (per un totale di oltre 2000 pezzi tra oggetti originali, disegni, documenti) un comitato scientifico provvede a realizzare ricerche e approfondimenti, da cui nascono mostre antologiche itineranti che dal 1996 portano selezioni di oggetti della Collezione storica in ogni parte del mondo.
Dalla XIX edizione (2001) il premio Compasso d'Oro viene assegnato dalla giuria sulla base di una preselezione effettuata dall'Osservatorio permanente del Design, una commissione di circa quaranta esperti (critici, storici, progettisti, giornalisti specializzati), soci dell'ADI o esterni a essa, impegnati con continuità nel raccogliere informazioni, valutare e selezionare i migliori prodotti.
2001 : Il Premio Speciale Europeo è stato assegnato ad Augusto Morello che, per le sue molteplici attività legate al design, rappresenta da sempre una delle personalità più importanti sul piano strategico della ricerca e del progetto.

La CLEAN dal 1990 bandisce il Premio di Architettura "Luigi Cosenza", biennale, riservato ad architetti ed ingegneri, di età non superiore ai 40 anni, al fine di selezionare e far conoscere quei progetti e quelle opere della nuova generazione che si distinguano per rigore di idee e tecniche applicate ad una ricerca nel moderno dei fondamenti dell'architettura.

Il Premio, dall'edizione del 2000, è divenuto Europeo.

Un Premio speciale della Giuria fuori concorso viene inoltre assegnato ad un progettista senza limiti di età e nazionalità. Nelle precedenti edizioni sono stati premiati: James Stirling (1992), Ettore Sottsass jr. (1994), Pasquale Culotta e Giuseppe Leone (1996), Roberto Gabetti & Aimaro Isola (1998).

Il Premio e' intitolato a:
LUIGI COSENZA, singolare figura di ingegnere-architetto (Napoli 1905-1984), che fin dal primo progetto realizzato nel 1929 a 24 anni (il Mercato Ittico di Napoli) si afferma quale autorevole rappresentante del razionalismo italiano. Seguiranno nuove prove che confermeranno la notevole qualità espressiva e poetica del progettista, tra cui si ricordano: Villa Oro (1935) con B. Rudofsky, Villa Savarese (1938); i due Concorsi di Roma per il Palazzo del Littorio (1934) ed il Nuovo Auditorium (1935), primo premio; il Nuovo Piano Regolatore di Napoli (1945), le Case popolari di Barra (1946), viale Augusto (1949), via Consalvo (1949); il nuovo stabilimento industriale Olivetti a Pozzuoli (senza alcun dubbio opera "capolavoro", 1952-1969), il nuovo Quartiere residenziale Olivetti (1952-1963), il nuovo Politecnico di Napoli (1955-1980), lo stabilimento della Landis & Gyr a Salerno (1962-1965), l'Ampliamento della Galleria Nazionale di Arte Moderna a Roma (1965-in corso di realizzazione).

Il Premio Architettura Sostenibile Fassa Bortolo è molto più di un concorso. È prima di tutto un modo di fare cultura nel mondo dell'edilizia, mirato, da un lato, a creare un nuovo esclusivo punto d'incontro per i professionisti del settore e, dall'altro, a far conoscere a un pubblico il più ampio possibile l'opera dei progettisti e dei costruttori impegnati nella ricerca del migliore equilibrio tra l'uomo e l'ambiente. Un'iniziativa promossa da Fassa Bortolo - azienda leader negli intonaci premiscelati - e dalla Facoltà di Architettura dell'Università di Ferrara per stimolare soluzioni innovative nell'ambito della bioarchitettura.
Il Premio ha cadenza annuale ed è dedicato ai professionisti e agli studi di architettura e ingegneria che negli ultimi cinque anni abbiano realizzato, in Italia o in Europa, progetti di architettura sostenibile. La documentazione necessaria per partecipare - indicata nella sezione "Il Bando" di questo sito - deve essere presentata entro il mese di gennaio di ogni anno.

Il Premio “Architettura Sostenibile”, ideato e promosso dalla Facoltà di Architettura di Ferrara in occasione del Decennale della fondazione e da Fassa Bortolo, nasce dalla volontà di premiare e far conoscere ad un ampio pubblico architetture che sappiano rapportarsi in maniera equilibrata con l’ambiente, che siano pensate per le necessità dell’uomo e che siano capaci di soddisfare i bisogni delle nostre generazioni senza limitare, con il consumo indiscriminato di risorse e l’inquinamento prodotto, quelli delle generazioni future.Il Premio avrà cadenza annuale e sarà assegnato all’opera che meglio esprimerà i principi fondamentali su cui si basa il Premio in oggetto. L’opera dovrà essere realizzata in territorio Europeo ed ultimata nell’arco degli ultimi 5 anni. Saranno inoltre assegnate due Menzioni Speciali. La prima Menzione Speciale andrà alla migliore realizzazione relativa ad interventi di recupero edilizio condotto con i criteri sopra descritti, ed inoltre una seconda Menzione Speciale è riservata alla miglior opera di giovani progettisti di età non superiore ai 40 anni al momento dell’iscrizione.
Il monte premi complessivo è di 10.000,00 Euro.
1 premio al vincitore del Premio “Architettura Sostenibile” pari a 5.000,00 Euro.
2 premi alle Menzioni Speciali pari a 2.500,00 Euro.
La giuria, se lo riterrà opportuno, potrà distribuire diversamente il monte premi complessivo.

Le candidature al Premio possono essere presentate da professionisti singoli o studi di architettura o ingegneria nati o laureati in Europa.
Il progetto vincitore insieme a tutti quelli ritenuti onorevoli di menzione saranno pubblicati in un fascicolo dedicato all’edizione del Premio. Sarà prevista inoltre la diffusione dell’esito sulla rete web attraverso il sito internet XFAF.

Fondé en 1982 par l’architecte Philippe Rotthier, ce prix d'architecture triennal est l’un des rares à récompenser des œuvres qui se situent dans la continuité de la tradition européenne de concevoir des villes.
Le prix poursuit un double objectif : la mise en valeur d’une production architecturale et urbaine contemporaine rarement valorisée par la critique et la presse spécialisée, et le renforcement de l’exigence du public, des élus et des commanditaires.
La Fondation pour l’Architecture assure l’organisation de ce prix dont les projets lauréats, sélectionnés par un jury composé de personnalités européennes du monde de l’art et de l’architecture, font l’objet d’expositions et de publications.
Au nombre des lauréats, Manuel Manzano-Monis, Quinlan Terry (1982) ; Abdel-Wahed El Wakil, Jean-Pierre Errath, Manuel Iñiguez & Alberto Ustarroz, Ernst Schirmacher, Pompeo Trisciuoglio (1987) ; Javier Cenicacelaya & Iñigo Salona, Piotr Choynowski, Robert De Gernier, Demetri Porphyrios (1992) ; Jacques Leccia & Christian Parra, Guy Montharry, Pierre Sicard & Michel Authié, Daniel Staelens (1995) ; François Spoerry, Société Immobilière de Mayotte, Carlo Bontempi (1998) ; Eusebio Leal Spengler (2002).

Doté d'un montant total de 30.000 euro, il sera distribué en un ou plusieurs prix.

Ce prix montre que des architectures et des aménagements de qualité, qui font la fierté des européens, sont toujours réalisables aujourd’hui et que pas plus que la " mal-bouffe ", la " mal-architecture " n’est une fatalité.

Les réalisations primées lors des cinq sessions précédentes portaient, à titre d’exemple, sur l’embellissement du centre historique de Bordeaux, la reconstruction d'un quartier de la ville de Fuentarrabia au Pays Basque, l’extension du village de Gassin en Provence, la reconstruction de la place du Samedi à Francfort, l'extension d’un village sur l’île grecque de Spetses, la création de quatre ensembles urbains dans la région de Parme, la reconstruction des abords de la cathédrale d'Orléans, la reconstruction d'une rue dans le centre de Bruxelles, ainsi que la réalisation de la nouvelle halle de Bayonne, de logements sociaux sur l’île de Mayotte, d'une école rurale en Roumanie.

Edizione 2005 :
Les prix seront attribués sur examen d’un dossier au format A? comportant toutes les informations utiles à la lecture du projet : situation, plans, coupes, élévations, détails constructifs, photographies, etc. Les auteurs mettront en
évidence le contexte dans lequel s’insèrent leurs œuvres ainsi que tous les éléments qui jouent en faveur de la qualification de l’environnement. Les dossiers peuvent être accompagnés de maquettes et/ou de tout support audiovisuel. Ils seront restitués aux candidats à leur demande et à leurs frais.
Les dossiers doivent être remis au plus tard le 15 avril 2005 à la Fondation pour l’Architecture.
Le Prix européen d’architecture Philippe Rotthier sera décerné pour la septième fois en octobre 2005, doté d’un montant total de 30.000 €, et sera distribué en un ou plusieurs prix. Peuvent être présentées au prix toutes les œuvres achevées (ou en
voie d’achèvement) entre 2002 et 2005
Le jury sera composé des architectes européens Piercarlo Bontempi (Italie), Stéphanie Celle (France), Maurice Culot (France), Eulàlia González (Espagne), Frank Hetherton (Irlande), Marcel Kalberer (Allemagne), Léon Krier (France), Elie
Levy (Belgique), Rudy Ricciotti (France), ainsi que des journalistes Gilles de Bure (France), Françoise Lefébure (France), Martin Mosebach (Allemagne), Piet Swimberghe (Belgique), du constructeur Patrick de La Rivière (France), du photographe
Christian Carez (Belgique), du philosophe Toni Marí (Espagne).
L’architecte Philippe Rotthier, fondateur du Prix, assistera aux délibérations du jury.
Le secrétariat du Prix sera assuré par la Fondation pour l’Architecture.
Le jury se réunira à Bruxelles les 10 et 11 juin 2005.
La cérémonie officielle de remise du prix se déroulera les 21 et 22 octobre 2005, dans les salles de la Fondation pour l’Architecture au Centre International pour la Ville, l’Architecture et le Paysage, à Bruxelles.
Un catalogue des œuvres primées et un ouvrage présentant les résultats du Prix Européen d’Architecture Philippe Rotthier depuis 1982 seront publiés à cette occasion. Les projets lauréats feront également l’objet d’une exposition réalisée et présentée
par la Fondation pour l’Architecture à Bruxelles.

This award is intended to make the general public aware of the importance of such clients in the creation of fine buildings. It is fully supported by the Architecture: Visual Arts Department of the Arts Council of England. The prize is a work of art, commissioned by the client, to the value of £5000. In 1999 the award was made to the Marylebone Cricket Club for the series of fine buildings they have commissioned at the headquarters of English cricket, in 2000 the recipient was the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The Stephen Lawrence Prize, sponsored by the Goldschmied Trust, is intended to give greater prominence to the creativity demonstrated on smaller projects. It is awarded to the architect of an RIBA Award-winning building costing less than £200,000. The Prize, introduced in 1998, commemorates Stephen Lawrence, the black teenager planning to become an architect whose life was taken in South London in 1993, and supports the charitable trust set up in his name. The winning architect receives £5000.

The Copper in Architecture Awards promote and reward excellence in design by architects and students, as well as craftsmanship by installers. To be eligible, all entries must incorporate cladding, roofing or other architectural elements of copper or copper alloys, such as bronze. Awards will be presented at a ceremony in London in September 2005. All winning and commended projects will feature in extensive press coverage, including a special supplement in Architectural Review. A selection of entries will be displayed at the presentation.

Entries are judged from photographs, drawings and other material submitted, by a group selected from the following panel of architect judges:

European Urban & Regional Planning Awards - ECTP

The Awards are organised in two stages. The first stage is organised at national level by the associations of spatial planners in European countries; some already award a national prize for planning and use this to select candidates. This "national selection" then makes up the short list for the second stage of the Awards, at which winners of the European Awards are selected.

The aims of the Awards Scheme are to:
- demonstrate to the general public, and to the planning profession in particular, successful and innovative planning projects and developments through which the quality of life of European citizens is enhanced and improved, socially, economically and environmentally
promote the views, ideas and vision of the ECTP on the future of European cities and regions, as expressed in the New Charter of Athens, whereby conditions favourable to the promotion of sustainable development are created and enhanced
- illustrate the diversity and wide scope of planning activity today: in regeneration of urban and other areas, economics and leisure, transport and traffic management, as well as promoting social cohesion and enhancing cultural identity, to mention but a few
- demonstrate clearly the advantages of the participatory planning process, facilitated and enabled by professional planners, showing that co-operation between stakeholders, local authorities, development agencies and interested citizens can have a synergistic effect of benefit to all participants.
