The Alice Davis Hitchcock
Book Award was established in 1949 to recognize annually the most distinguished
work of scholarship in the history of architecture published by a North
American scholar.
A "North American scholar" is defined as someone born in the
United States, Canada, or Mexico, or someone who published the book
while living in the United States, Canada or Mexico, or while holding
a position in one of these countries. For the purposes of this award,
"architectural history" is interpreted loosely, to include
such fields as garden and stage design and urban development, when presented
in close conjunction with the history of architecture. Books dealing
only in part with architecture are also eligible.
Books with a 2002 or 2003 copyright date are eligible. Publishers submitting
entries should indicate the exact date of publication with each submission.
Only publishers may submit entries for consideration .
Books submitted for this award may not be submitted in the same year
for the Antoinette Forrester Downing Award, the Philip Johnson Award,
or the Spiro Kostof Award; books that have received one of those awards
in a previous year may not be submitted for the Alice Davis Hitchcock
Award.
The award consists
of a citation and a framed photographic image bearing the name of the
winner. Both will be presented at the Society's 58th Annual Meeting
in Vancouver, British Columbia, April 6-10, 2005. The award will be
announced in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians
and the Newsletter of the Society after the presentation. The winning
publication will become part of the Society's permanent collection,
displayed in the library of the Charnley-Persky House in Chicago, Illinois.

American Architecture Awards”gives an important overview of the
current direction of today’s commercial, corporate, institutional,
and residential work in the United States to the real estate, banking,
business, and corporate community, as well as to the press and general
public.
"The American
Architecture" Exhibition and Distinguished Building Awards Program
is dedicated to the recognition of excellence in architecture in the United
States. We look forward to honoring the broad range of quality projects
submitted this year.
The exhibition
is installed at The Chicago Athenaeum.
Submission deadline:
April 1, 2005
Exhibition date: Fall/Winter 2005
Eligibility
All submissions
must be the work of American architects and architectural firms either
working nationally or internationally for projects both in the U.S. and
abroad. International architecture firms headquartered outside the United
States are eligible to enter projects built in the U.S. only.

The
Archiprix Foundation is a collaboration between higher educational institutions
in the Netherlands in the fields of architecture, planning and landscape
architecture. Institutions taking part are:

of Architecture
- Delft University of Technology: Faculty of architecture
- Eindhoven University of Technology: Faculty of building and architecture
- Hogeschool Rotterdam: RIBACS, Academy of Architecture and Urban Design,

- Fontys Academy of Architecture and Urban Design, Tilburg
- Wageningen Agricultural University: Laboratory for Spatial Analysis,
Planning and Design
The
foundation's executive board consists of representatives of these institutions
and has an independent chairman.
Each year the institutions that teach design in the Netherlands select
the best plans by their students for submission to Archiprix. Diversity
is typical of Archiprix. Unlike most competitions there is no common design
task. Scale, issues, presentation - all of these differ per plan.
Up and coming talent is often presented for the first time by Archiprix.
The high quality of the prize-winning projects leads us to expect that
the talent of those taking part in Archiprix will signify an enrichment
of the professional world. |

The awards, promoted by ODPM in partnership with National
House Building Council, Royal Institute of British Architects and the
Royal Town Planning Institute, typically reward 15-20 schemes, either
built or still under construction.
In 1947 Aneurin
Bevan, then Minister for Health with responsibility for housing, announced
that his Ministry would be giving annual awards for public housing design
and layout. After consultation with the RIBA, awards committees were set
up for each of the then four English regions, presenting one medal each
for an urban and a rural scheme, except for London where the medals were
for one new scheme, and one reconstruction.
The initial
scheme ran until 1955, and during this period awards reflected the increasing
importance of the urban reconstruction and New Towns programmes, including
the first high rise developments, like The Lawns, Harlow, by Frederick
Gibberd.
In 1960, the scheme was
reconstituted as the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (later DoE)
Good Design in Housing Awards, sponsored jointly with the RIBA. The new
scheme covered both private and public sector housing, reflecting the
emergence of imaginative speculative developments like the Span estate
at Southrow, Blackheath, by Eric Lyons.
The next ten years showed
a significant shift of emphasis away from public sector high density high
rise and private sector low density low rise to compact housing schemes
in both sectors, pioneered by Darbourne and Darke’s Lillington Gardens,
in Westminster.
In 1981 the NHBC joined
the DoE and the RIBA as sponsors, to create the Housing Design Awards.
The Awards became a biennial event, and the public and private sector
categories were abolished, reflecting their increasing convergence, as
in the private village development at Bledlow, Buckinghamshire, by Aldington
and Craig.
The last ten years have
seen a further shift towards diversity in housing, away from the rigid
categories employed in earlier years. Mainstream housing today needs to
cater for a very broad range of needs, as exemplified by the small group
of homes for people with mental or physical disabilities in the heart
of Westminster by CGHP Architects, and the new streamlined structure of
the Awards is designed to accommodate this diversity in as flexible a
manner as possible.
Schemes must be of four
or more homes, may be in the private or public sector, may be new-build,
conversions or renovations and must be in England or Northern Ireland.
Those receiving a Project Award in one year are automatically shortlisted
for a Completed Scheme Award after they are finished. The overriding criterion
for both is design excellence – internal, external and in the overall
layout.

Housing Projects or Completed Schemes which reflect the highest standards
in Housing Design
Eligibility : Four or
more houses, bungalows, maisonettes, flats or any combination of these.
Schemes including non-residential uses may be entered provided housing
constitutes the main element.

Prize
for the best building by a young architect in the Netherlands
The
Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI) launched in 2002 a new prize
for architecture - the NAi Prize - to be awarded every two years for the
best building by a young architect in the Netherlands.
Architects in the Netherlands enjoy the opportunity of realising their
designs at a young age. Dutch architecture is young. The situation here
differs from that in other countries - often a source of greater admiration
and respect abroad than at home. By establishing this new architecture
prize for young architects, the NAi is hoping to raise awareness for this
development in the Netherlands and elsewhere. It is also a way of expanding
the NAi Collection by acquiring documentation relating to recent architectural
highlights by young Dutch architects.
A public presentation will accompany each edition of the NAi Prize.
There
are two main objectives to the biannual prize are. Firstly, the prize
is a logical extension of the NAI's remit to present the work of young
architects and architecture students. For some time the NAI has dedicated
part of the building to this generation for presenting its ideas via prizes,
publications and exhibitions.
Secondly,
the NAI wishes to acquire archival material relating to recent highlights
of Dutch architecture by young practices in a systematic manner. With
this initiative, the NAI's archive provides a survey of the best of contemporary
architecture in addition to the works of the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries.

As
architectural history exhibitions are able to address historical and critical
questions in special ways, through the presentation of both documentation
and artifacts to a diversified audience, so their catalogues have become
distinctive vehicles for the expression of scholarship in architectural
history. They remain as the substantial and enduring contribution after
the life of the exhibition is spent. In order, therefore, to recognize
and encourage excellence in this form of scholarship and publication,
the Society of Architectural Historians has established its annual Philip
Johnson Award. The award consists of a certificate and citation. These
will be presented at the Society's 55th Annual Meeting in Richmond, April
17-21, 2002. The award will be announced in the Journal of the Society
of Architectural Historians and the Newsletter of the Society after the
presentation. The winning catalogue will become part of the Society’s
permanent collection, displayed in the library of the Charnley-Persky
House in Chicago, Illinois. The catalogue must be written or edited by
a North American scholar, or originate in an exhibition in a North American
institution, or concern a North American subject. For the purposes of
this award, "North America" is defined as Canada, the United States, and
Mexico; and a "North American scholar" is defined as someone born in one
of these three countries, or someone who published the catalogue while
living or holding a position in one of these countries. The catalogue
must hold a copyright date from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2001.
The catalogue must concern works in the realm of architectural history,
including urbanism, landscape, interior architecture, and set design.
The catalogue must be specifically related to an exhibition. Books submitted
for this award may not be submitted in the same year for the Alice Davis
Hitchcock Award, the Antoinette Forrester Downing Award, or the Spiro
Kostof Award; books that have received on of those awards in a previous
year may not be re-submitted for the Philip Johnson Award. |

Foundation RTS as an acknowledgement to young architects who have distinguished

The Building
Information Foundation RTS is Finland's leading information service for

good planning and construction practices as well as sound property management
procedures.
The Building Information Group
The Building Information Foundation RTS is a private foundation with representatives

In
occasione della XX Esposizione Internazionale “La memoria e il futuro”
la Triennale di Milano bandisce la Medaglia d’Oro all’Architettura Italiana,
evento con cadenza triennale che intende promuovere e riflettere sulle
nuove e più interessanti opere costruite nel Paese e sui protagonisti
che le rendono possibili.
La Medaglia d’Oro all’Architettura Italiana punta alla promozione pubblica
dell’architettura contemporanea come costruttrice di qualità ambientale
e civile, ed insieme guarda all’architettura come prodotto di un dialogo
vitale tra progettista, committenza ed impresa.
La Medaglia d’Oro all’Architettura Italiana si pone come riflessione attiva
sul ruolo del progettista e delle sue opere puntando alla diffusione pubblica
in Italia ed all’estero di un nuovo patrimonio di costruzioni e idee e
insieme verificando periodicamente lo stato della produzione architettonica
nel Paese, gli indirizzi, i problemi ed i nuovi attori.
Modalità
Il Premio ha cadenza triennale ed è così ripartito:
Medaglia d’Oro all’Opera, Opera prima, Committenza pubblica, Committenza
privata e Critica.
Medaglia d’Oro all’opera per la qualità della progettazione, la sua intelligenza
ambientale e contestuale, la realizzazione e la capacità d’innovazione
tecnologica.
Medaglia d’Oro all’opera prima. Il premio si riferisce ad un'opera prima
realizzata dal progettista entro il compimento del 40esimo anno d’età
ed intende porre in forte evidenza la nuova generazione di progettisti
che opera attivamente nel territorio.
Medaglia d’Oro alla committenza pubblica ed alla committenza privata.
Il premio intende porre l’attenzione sul ruolo fondamentale che la committenza
ha nella costruzione di un opera di architettura e nella definizione di
una differente qualità dello spazio fisico e sociale.
Medaglia d’Oro alla critica. Il premio intende dare visibilità agli autori
la cui opera teorica abbia dato un contributo decisivo alla conoscenza
e promozione dell’architettura italiana contemporanea nonché alla elaborazione
di contenuti innovativi all’interno della cultura architettonica italiana
ed internazionale.
Affiancate alle medaglie d’oro sono previste sette Menzioni d’Onore relative
ad altrettante sezioni del costruire nel territorio:
Abitare (residenza, residenze speciali), Educazione (scuole, università,
asili, istituti educativi e professionali), Sport (palestre, piscine,
impianti sportivi, stadi), Attività produttive e per il pubblico (centri
e spazi commerciali, uffici, impianti industriali, laboratori, aziende
agricole), Cultura e il tempo libero (musei, spazi espositivi, biblioteche,
cinema, teatri, discoteche, strutture per la ristorazione), Salute e benessere
(ospedali, istituti speciali, centri di ricerca, cliniche, impianti termali),
Spazi ed infrastrutture pubbliche (piazze, parchi, ponti, viadotti, linee
metropolitane, edifici pubblici e religiosi).
Il premio, per la sua prima edizione, verrà assegnato ad architetture
rispondenti alle seguenti caratteristiche:
1. I distinti Premi verranno assegnati a progettisti (architetti ed ingegneri)
le cui opere siano localizzate in Italia e realizzate in un arco di tempo
compreso tra il 1995 e il 2002.
2. I Premi e le Menzioni d’Onore verranno banditi, a partire dall’anno
in corso, ogni 3 anni e saranno assegnati da una giuria composta da architetti,
critici e specialisti. La Giuria si riunirà due volte; il secondo incontro
stabilirà i vincitori. La decisione della Giuria verrà resa pubblica tramite
una conferenza stampa e una cerimonia ufficiale di assegnazione degli
stessi, cui seguirà l’esposizione e la pubblicazione dei progetti partecipanti
che la giuria riterrà più meritevoli.
3. Il consulente scientifico per l’architettura della Triennale di Milano,
Architetto Luca Molinari, svolgerà, all’interno della Giuria stessa, il
ruolo di coordinatore, senza diritto di voto.
Criteri di selezione
Sono previsti due criteri di raccolta delle candidature i cui risultati
confluiranno, senza alcuna selezione preventiva, in un unico contenitore
che verrà sottoposto alla giuria.
Un gruppo di quaranta tra direttori delle più importanti riviste di architettura
italiane e straniere, dei direttori di Centri per l’architettura e di
critici è stato invitato dalla Triennale di Milano a segnalare le opere
relative alle categorie indicate.
Contemporaneamente qualsiasi progettista (architetto e ingegnere) potrà
autocandidare un proprio lavoro seguendo le indicazioni consultabili all’interno
del sito web della Triennale di Milano (www.triennale.it).
La Medaglia d’Oro alla critica sarà assegnata direttamente dalla Giuria
che potrà anche avvalersi delle segnalazioni fatte pervenire direttamente
dal pubblico e dagli autori interessati presso il sito della Triennale
di Milano (www.triennale.it).
Le Medaglie d’Oro e le Menzioni d’onore verranno assegnate dalla giuria,
il cui giudizio è considerato inappellabile.
Non sono previsti premi ex-equo.
Qualora un progettista venisse selezionato per la seconda fase è tenuto
a fornire alla Triennale di Milano materiali grafici ed illustrativi aggiuntivi
liberi da diritti d’autore.

Il Premio Alcoa
Architettura è un premio all'opera, alla sua qualità architettonica e,
insieme, un premio alle qualità tecniche della sua realizzazione. Un premio
al progettista e a chi ha realizzato e messo in opera i componenti in
alluminio, un premio a chi ha saputo mettere in campo le proprie competenze
tecniche per far risaltare l'alluminio quale materiale protagonista dell'architettura.

La rivista
Costruire bandisce il quarto premio intitolato alla memoria del professor
Mauro Maccolini, denominato "Premio Costruire l'innovazione".
La partecipazione
al premio è regolata dal seguente bando.
Il premio consiste in
una targa, che verrà consegnata ai vincitori nel corso del Saie 2002 e
nella pubblicazione degli elaborati sulla rivista Costruire. Saranno proclamati
vincitori i primi 3 classificati a seguito della selezione operata dalla
Giuria su tutti i progetti ammessi al Premio.
Il premio sarà conferito
al progetto di un componente edilizio o di una attrezzatura di cantiere
che:
- o presenti significativi
elementi di innovazione dal punto di vista tecnico, costruttivo, funzionale,
prestazionale e/o di impiego;
- o sia sviluppato fino
a conseguire un livello di definizione sufficiente a valutare la producibilità
dell'oggetto, oltre alle sue caratteristiche e funzionalità.
Al fine del
premio:
- o per componente edilizio
si intende un qualunque manufatto di caratteristiche geometriche determinate,
realizzato fuori opera e destinato a essere permanentemente incorporato
nell'edificio;
- o per attrezzatura
di cantiere si intende un dispositivo fisico destinato a essere utilizzato
- quale utensile o mezzo d'opera - durante la costruzione dell'edificio.
La partecipazione
al premio è riservata:
- o agli studenti degli
ultimi 3 anni delle facoltà di architettura e ingegneria;
- o agli studenti dell'ultimo
anno dei corsi di diploma universitario in Edilizia e Disegno industriale;
- o ai laureati e diplomati
delle stesse facoltà e corsi negli anni accademici 1999/00, 2000/01 e
2001/02.
Sono ammessi
partecipanti singoli o riuniti in gruppo. Nel caso di gruppi, i requisiti

Le facciate
delle chiese cristiane sono spesso precedute da uno spazio che prende
il nome di sagrato. Si tratta di uno spazio autonomo, con la funzione
di creare una zona di rispetto tra il luogo sacro e l’eventuale
pubblica piazza o strada.
Molti sagrati si presentano con una qualità architettonica e con
caratteristiche storico-artistiche tali da costituire già una “memoria
intangibile”. Molti altri, invece, per diverse motivazioni, si presentano
scarsamente definiti dal punto di vista architettonico, degradati o, comunque,
meritevoli di un intervento di riqualificazione.
Frequentemente,
attraverso un sistema di gradonature, il sagrato si presenta elevato rispetto
al piano antistante la chiesa, assumendo, in tal caso, anche una funzione
architettonica di sorta di basamento della facciata.
Qualora il sagrato non presenti tale caratteristica e se non diversamente
definito per consolidata e documentata memoria storica, ai fini del presente
Premio si individua come area di intervento, in linea di massima, lo spazio
corrispondente al ribaltamento sul piano orizzontale della facciata del
fronte principale della chiesa, sia esso pubblico o privato. Qualsiasi
altro criterio per la definizione dell’area di intervento dovrà
essere adeguatamente motivato.
Il
sagrato è un luogo di diretta pertinenza della chiesa cristiana:
nel suo stesso nome è infatti indicato che esso deve considerarsi
luogo dedicato al sacro.
In esso molto spesso durante l’alto Medioevo, e poi fino al Rinascimento
e, in qualche territorio anche più tardi, vennero scavate delle
sepolture. Per usi e convezioni rispettati, in alcuni paesi fino ad epoca
relativamente recente, il sagrato, come l’interno della chiesa,
ha goduto della immunità. Sul sagrato si svolgevano durante il
Medioevo le sacre rappresentazioni che in qualche regione sono ancora
oggi in uso; e sul sagrato, in determinate circostanze, appare il sacerdote,
per celebrare riti di accoglienza e sacramentali.
L’origine del sagrato va dunque essenzialmente ricercata in ragioni
di comodo, ma la sua origine strettamente architettonica si può
spiegare con una sorta di semplificazione o trasformazione del portico.
In antico infatti la spazio cultuale era nelle migliori soluzioni anticipato
da un quadriportico. Il sagrato può anche essere accostato, specie
per l’idea della scala d’accesso, al pronao che precede l’ingresso
di molti templi pagani, tanto da costituirne la sua evoluzione nell’ambito
della diversa concezione religiosa cristiana.
Il
Premio intende promuovere una vasta e articolata operazione culturale
che, attraverso l’attivazione di nuove energie creative, possa produrre
anche un approfondito ripensamento sulla storia delle nostre città
e dei nostri paesi
Il
progetto dovrà riferirsi a un contesto ambientale reale, individuato
e proposto dal concorrente, tenendo presenti le condizioni previste al
successivo art. 5.
Nella scelta, dovranno essere privilegiati i sagrati presenti in aree
meno conosciute, come centri minori o periferie di aree metropolitane,
affinché le proposte ideative prodotte siano diffuse il più
possibile sul territorio e riferite al più ampio numero di casi
possibile. L’individuazione di siti meno noti costituirà,
peraltro, specifico elemento di valutazione da parte delle Commissioni
giudicatrici, rientrando tra le finalità del Premio promuovere
la diffusione della qualità architettonica in contesti ambientali
diversi.
Il
Premio è aperto alla partecipazione degli iscritti agli Ordini
degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori dello Stato
italiano.
La partecipazione può avvenire, nell’ambito delle rispettive
competenze, sia singolarmente che attraverso la formazione di un raggruppamento.
La partecipazione in forma singola o in qualità di capogruppo può
avvenire solo in riferimento ad un’area rientrante nell’ambito
territoriale del proprio Ordine di appartenenza e solo nel caso quest’ultimo
abbia aderito all’iniziativa.

El
Premio “Eduardo Torroja” de Ingeniería y Arquitectura, creado por el Ministerio
de Fomento con carácter bienal, tiene como objetivo reconocer la integración
de los valores arquitectónicos, constructivos y estructurales de una obra,
tratados como una unidad, realizada por un equipo interdisciplinar de
ingenieros y arquitectos de manera equilibrada y armónica entre ambas
profesiones", según explicó el Ministerio.
Obra construida en España y que haya finalizado entre el 1 de enero de
2000 y el 31 de diciembre de 2001.
Presentación de propuestas.—"Las obras propuestas vendrán presentadas
por escrito, por alguna de las siguientes Instituciones o grupos de personas:

La Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
Las Administraciones Públicas de carácter nacional, autonómico o municipal.
El Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos.

El Premio quedará acreditado por una escultura, diseño del escultor Joaquín
Vaquero Turcios, idea que fue seleccionada por la Comisión Organizadora
del Primer Centenario en su reunión ordinaria del 20 de abril de 1999
y que servirá de imagen al mismo y unos Diplomas, que se entregarán a
cada uno de los Ingenieros y Arquitectos autores de la obra que conformen
el equipo.
Igualmente se entregará una placa alusiva, obra del mismo escultor, para
su colocación en la obra premiada, tras obtener las oportunas autorizaciones.

Il premio,
articolato in diverse sezioni, rappresenta un riconoscimento formale e
sostanziale rivolto a Pubbliche Amministrazioni e Progettisti che si sono
distinti per la qualità delle attività promosse e degli interventi realizzati
sulle tematiche dello spazio pubblico.
Con “Arredare la città”
2003 torna anche la terza edizione del premio nazionale “Torre Guinigi”,
rivolto a progettisti e pubbliche amministrazioni che si sono distinti
per progetti di riqualificazione dello spazio pubblico.
Si tratta di premio ambito che negli anni passati è stato assegnato
a importanti città italiane e straniere. Ricordiamo, nel 1999,
i riconoscimenti a Torino, Trieste e Perugia per una serie di progetti
mirati a valorizzare il proprio contesto urbano; e, nel 2001, quelli a
Santiago di Compostela (per l’individuazione e l’attuazione
di politiche urbane incisive sul corpo della città storica), Cremona
e Salerno. Nel corso delle precedenti edizioni sono stati assegnati premi
anche a valenti progettisti italiani.
Quest’anno
sono sette i riconoscimenti che saranno assegnanti il giorno 16 ottobre:
ai Comuni di due grandi città e due centri minori, ad un progetto
realizzato in Sicilia dal Fondo Ambiente Italiano e a due grandi nomi
dell’architettura italiana.

Créé
en 1996 par Architecture et Musique, en partenariat avec " La Demeure-Historique
", association professionnelles des propriétaires de monuments historiques
privés, est décerné chaque année le PRIX ARCHITECTURE ET MUSIQUE qui récompense
la restauration ou l'aménagement d'un lieu voué à la musique dans un édifice
ou un site privé.
Ce prix consiste en un concert offert par l'Ensemble Architecture et Musique,
et dont la recette est versée au profit de la restauration du monument
primé.
Les musiciens deviennent ainsi, un jour par an, mécènes des châtelains…
Architecture et Musique a été créé en 1990 sous l'impulsion d'un mélomane,
industriel du bâtiment. La crise économique qui frappa ce secteur dans
les années qui suivirent conduisit ce mécène à renoncer à poursuivre son
projet. Il confia alors aux musiciens eux-mêmes la perrénisation de l'ensemble
instrumental, de sa gestion et de sa raison d'être : animer des édifices,
qu'ils soient historiques ou actuels, par la musique vivante.
" L'Architecture et la Musique sont tous deux des arts dont la notion
est véhiculée à plat (notes, partitions, dessins, plans) et dont la perception
est volumétrique. Qu'est-ce qu'une musique, en dehors du volume où elle
est interprêtée ? Qu'est-ce qu'une architecture, si ce n'est d'abord une
organisation raisonnée des volumes ? Le vécu simultané des deux arts,
la conjonction du plaisir de l'œil et de l'oreille, provoque une extase
musicale et architecturale absente dans la seule audition d'un disque.
Chacun de ces deux arts a sa valeur propre, mais la conjugaison des deux
va nous remuer l'âme…”

En 1995 nait l'association Architecture et Musique - Paris, avec pour
objet : " mettre en évidence la complémentarité séculaire entre ces deux
arts majeurs que sont l'architecture et la musique, notamment par l'organisation
ou la participation à des événements musicaux qui mettent en valeur des
édifices tant historiques que contemporains ". Cette association regroupe
des particuliers, mais peut accueillir également des personnes morales.
Titulaire d'une licence d'entrepreneur de spectacles, elle gère la programmation
de l'Ensemble Architecture et Musique, dont les musiciens sont partenaires
-mais non membres- de l'Association. |

Destiné à être décerné tous les cinq
ans à l'auteur d'une œuvre d'architecture achevée ou
déjà étudiée en projet. Le prix est indivisible
mais il pourra être décerné aux auteurs d'un œuvre
faite en collaboration.
Les
œuvres réalisées devront avoir été édifiées
dans un des pays de la Communauté Économique Européenne.
Les projets devront concerner des œuvres à réaliser
sur le territoire de la CEE.
Aucune
condition de nationalité n'est prescrite en ce qui concerne les
auteurs des œuvres admissibles au concours.
Les
candidats au prix pourront attirer l'attention de la Classe sur leurs
œuvres réalisées. Ils joindront à leur lettre
de candidature les documents qu'ils jugeront utiles pour faire valoir
leur travail (photographies, etc.).
Les
architectes enverront leurs projets à M. le Secrétaire perpétuel.
Ces projets seront signés. Ces envois devront être faits
dans le dernier mois qui clôture la période.
Indépendamment
des candidatures présentées, la Classe pourra couronner
l'œuvre qui lui paraîtra la plus digne l'obtenir le prix.

Le
prix grand public de l’architecture, organisé en partenariat avec Radio
France, constitue une des principales actions de la campagne en faveur
de la qualité architecturale dont l’objectif est de sensibiliser les Français
à l’architecture contemporaine en cherchant à familiariser mieux et davantage
le plus grand nombre d’entre eux avec les réalisations et les pratiques
qui concourent à l’amélioration de leur cadre de vie bâti.
Avec ce prix, il s’agit de donner la possibilité au public, en lui permettant
de découvrir autrement l’architecture, d’exprimer ses préférences pour
des réalisations qui ont été sélectionnées par des pôles de ressources
régionaux regroupant toutes les compétences, aussi bien publiques qu’associatives
et privées qui participent déjà activement à la diffusion de l’architecture.
Cinq réalisations dans chacun des thèmes : maison individuelle, logement
collectif, équipement public, espace urbain et espace commercial ou lieu
de travail ont ainsi été proposées au vote du public sur l’ensemble du
territoire.
Dans chaque région, le public a été invité à voter au moyen d’un bulletin
publié dans certains titres de la presse régionale et sur le site Internet
du Ministère de la culture et de la communication ou sur celui de France
Info.
Les réalisations qui, dans chacune des cinq catégories, ont ainsi totalisé
le plus grand nombre de voix, ont été soumises, le 21 juin dernier, aux
délibérations d’un jury national, présidé par Nathalie Baye et composé
d’auditeurs de France Info, qui a désigné parmi les architectures retenues
celles qui lui ont paru illustrer le mieux la qualité architecturale.
Jean-Jacques Aillagon, Ministre de la culture et de la communication,
Jean-Marie Cavada, Président Directeur Général de Radio France et Nathalie
Baye, Présidente du jury, proclament le palmarès national du prix grand
public de l’architecture le 24 juin 2003 au Palais de la Porte Dorée.
L’organisation de ce prix, qui s’inspire du Livre Inter, repose sur le
partenariat de Radio France (France Info et France Bleue) et fait l’objet
d’un large soutien de la part d’un certain nombre de titres de la presse
régionale (Ouest France, La Dépêche du Midi, l’Est Républicain, Le Figaroscope,
La Voix du Nord, Le Courrier Picard...).

Le roi Willem III décrète en 1870 la fondation de la
Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, qui accueillera notamment Toorop,
Berlage, Mondriaan, Couzijn, Constant et Appel. Cet institut succède à
la Koninklijke Academie (19e siècle), la Stads Teekenacademie (18e siècle)
et la Konstkamer (17e siècle). La Rijksakademie a quitté ses locaux d'origine
pour rejoindre l'ancienne caserne de la Cavalerie, rénovée et transformée
dans le cadre de sa nouvelle attribution. Depuis le 1er novembre 1999,
la Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten est devenue un organisme indépendant
; la Stichting Rijksakademie est financée par la section Culture du Ministère
du développement, de la culture et des sciences (OC&W) dans le cadre
du " cycle de plan culturel ".

The Prix de Rome is the oldest and largest incentive
prize for young artists and architects (up to age 35) in the Netherlands.
Since 1985 it is awarded in ten disciplines - two disciplines per year:
Architecture and Urban & Landscape Architecture, Sculpture and Visual
Arts & Public Space, Photography and Film & Video, Painting and
Theatre & Visual Arts, Drawing and Graphics.
Annually two international juries are composed of four
artists/architects, and a theoretician, gallery owner or curator, two
of whom from abroad.
The chairman (without voting right) of both juries is Janwillem Schrofer,
Managing Director of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
The Prix de Rome has a preliminary and a final round. As a result of the
works submitted and interviews, the jury selects a maximum of four candidates
in each discipline for the final round. These candidates create new work
during the three-month working period on the basis of which the jury ultimately
awards the prizes. During the working period the final round candidates
have a studio at the Rijksakademie at their disposal.
The Prix de Rome was originally established in 1817 by William I - following
the French example. In 1870 the state prize was decreed by law at the
Rijksakademie by King William III. In 1985 the organisation of the Prix
de Rome was modernised simultaneously with the reorganisation of the Rijksakademie:
higher prize money, more scope for participants, etc. Since then, both
the importance of and the interest in the Prix de Rome have increased
considerably, on the one hand in the number of participants, on the other
hand from the media and the professional art world. The Prix de Rome is
organised by the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten. The Ministry of
Education, Culture and Science (OCenW) finances the prize monies and the
organisational costs. The Rijksakademie defrays the staff costs.

exceptionnels réalisés en Produits préfabriqués en Béton" dans le but
d’honorer des contributions professionnelles au développement et à l’image
de marque de l’industrie du béton.
Toute personne (architecte, ingénieur, chercheur, scientifique) et tout
groupe (entreprise de béton préfabriqué, bureau d’études, entrepreneur)
ayant joué un rôle considérable et déterminant dans la réalisation d’un
projet exceptionnel technique ou architectural, exécuté avec des produits
préfabriqués en béton, pouvaient introduire un projet (obligatoirement

Les Prix du
Gouverneur général en arts visuels et en arts médiatiques sont les plus
grandes distinctions accordées pour l'excellence en arts visuels et en
arts médiatiques au Canada. Ces Prix ont été créés en 1999 grâce à un
partenariat entre le Conseil des Arts du Canada et Roméo LeBlanc, alors
Gouverneur général du Canada, qui s'est engagé, au nom de la résidence
du Gouverneur général, à accueillir les lauréats à Rideau Hall à l'occasion
d'une cérémonie en leur honneur, à perpétuité. Le Conseil des Arts finance
et administre ces prix.
Sept prix de
15 000 $ chacun seront décernés annuellement : six prix seront attribués
pour souligner une carrière remarquable en arts visuels ou en arts médiatiques,
et un prix sera remis à un particulier ou à un groupe pour reconnaître
une contribution exceptionnelle aux arts visuels ou aux arts médiatiques
contemporains de bénévoles ou de professionnels, par le truchement du
mécénat, de la participation aux travaux d'un conseil d'administration
ou d'activités de rayonnement communautaire, ou encore comme directeur
d'un organisme, conservateur, directeur de la programmation, éducateur,
écrivain ou marchand/distributeur.
Chaque lauréat recevra également
une oeuvre d'art originale commandée par le Conseil des Arts du Canada.
Aucun prix ne sera accordé à titre
posthume. Les prix seront attribués à des personnes qui vivent encore
au moment de la date limite.

doivent être des citoyens canadiens ou des résidents permanents du Canada.
Tous les programmes et prix du Conseil des Arts du Canada s'adressent
également aux artistes autochtones et à ceux des diverses communautés
régionales et culturelles du Canada.

Les personnes proposées
doivent être des artistes professionnels qui sont demeurés actifs dans
la pratique des arts visuels ou des arts médiatiques au cours d'une longue
période et dont la contribution est reconnue sur la scène nationale et
internationale. Les prix visent à souligner tant les importantes contributions
à l'évolution des arts visuels ou des arts médiatiques que les pratiques
contemporaines significatives dans ce domaine.

Canada reconnaît comme artistes professionnels ceux qui ont reçu une formation
spécialisée dans le domaine (pas nécessairement dans des établissements
d'enseignement), qui sont reconnus par leurs pairs (des artistes de la
même tradition artistique) et qui ont déjà présenté des oeuvres en public.
Les personnes proposées
doivent avoir créé un ensemble exceptionnel et distingué d'oeuvres d'arts
visuels ou d'arts médiatiques dans au moins une des catégories suivantes
:
- les beaux-arts (peinture,
dessin, photographie, estampe et sculpture, y compris l'installation et
d'autres formes d'art tridimensionnel);
- les arts appliqués
(architecture et métiers d'art);
- les réalisations indépendantes
en cinéma et en vidéo;
- l'audio et les nouveaux
médias.
Le comité d'évaluation
par les pairs qui sera établi pour choisir les lauréats peut accorder
jusqu'à six Prix de réalisation artistique par année. |

Ce
prix est alimenté par la Fondation Paul ETIENNE
Le Prix Gabriel DEBOUNY a été instauré en 1946 par l'Association Royale
des Architectes de Liège dans le but de perpétuer la mémoire de l'Architecte
Gabriel DEBOUNY.
Le concours est ouvert à tout architecte régulièrement inscrit au Tableau
de l'Ordre, membre de I'Association Royale des Architectes de Liège ou
d'une autre association fédérée et en règle de cotisation.
Présentation d'un seul projet réalisé au maximum dans les cinq dernières
années ou en cours de réalisation au stade minimum de gros-oeuvre fermé.
Le projet peut représenter indifféremment une nouvelle construction, une
extension ou une transformation.
Le projet doit donner une image esthétique de qualité et représentative
du travail de l'architecte au service du maître de l'ouvrage.
Trois prix seront attribués:
A: Le prix offert par la Fondation Paul ETIENNE aux architectes
B: Le prix offert par l'asbl INFOR-ARCHITECTURE au public
C: Le prix offert par la SRAVE à l'architecte remportant le plus de votes
de la part des architectes.
L'Association Royale des Architectes de Liège publiera le résultat du
concours dans son bulletin ainsi que par un communiqué remis à la presse. |

La
remise officielle a lieu au printemps.
Concerne les étudiant en (avant-)dernière année d’Architecture, Ingénieur
(industriel ou civil) ou Ingénieur-Architecte
But : concevoir des projets utilisant des éléments préfabriqués en béton,
le matériau de construction par excellence d'aujourd'hui et de demain.
Deux catégories :
- Mise en oeuvre, de façon rationnelle et originale, d'éléments préfabriqués
en béton dans tous types de construction
- Etude de caractéristiques particulières d'éléments préfabriqués en béton
et/ou de leurs éléments constitutifs
Le projet primé dans chacune des deux catégories se voit attribuer un
Prix d'une valeur de 3718,4 euro (150.000 BEF), dont 2478,93 euro (100.000
BEF) sont destinés à l'étudiant (ou aux groupes d'étudiants) couronné.
L'institut d'enseignement concerné reçoit quant à lui un chèque d'une
valeur de 1239,46 euro (50.000 BEF).
Lors de la remise officielle des Prix, les lauréats ont l'occasion de
présenter leur projet in extenso devant un public composé de professeurs
des instituts d'enseignement concernés, de préfabricants et de la presse
professionnelle.
En outre, la présentation par les lauréats des projets primés est publiée
dans la Revue BETON.
De plus, il y a un financement préalable. Si l’étudiant envisage d'effectuer
une étude particulière ou des essais spécifiques mais qu’il manque de
moyens, et si le sujet entre dans le cadre du Concours Hollow Core, il
peut demander une contribution financière aux entreprises organisatrices.
Le jury est constitué d'un délégué de chaque entreprise participante et
du Directeur de la FEBE en qualité de Président. Le Président informe
personnellement les participants du résultat de la délibération du jury.

Destiné à couronner
tous les trois ans l'auteur ou les auteurs d'une grande composition architecturale.
Le prix sera décerné
à la suite d'un concours dont le sujet sera imposé par la Classe des Beaux-Arts.
Un an après le début de la période triennale, les candidats soumettent
un projet succinct, sur base du sujet imposé. Le jury retient alors trois
candidats. Pour le terme de la période, les trois candidats retenus élaborent
une version plus précise et définitive de leur projet initial. Suite à
un rapport du jury, la Classe attribue le prix à l'un des trois projets.
Pour pouvoir prendre
part au concours, aucune autre condition n'est imposée que celle de la
nationalité belge. Le prix pourra être décerné à une composition faite
en collaboration. Dans ce cas, il sera partagé en parts égales entre les
auteurs. Une seule œuvre sera couronnée. Les envois seront signés par
leurs auteurs.
La Classe pourra accorder
une récompense aux auteurs qui auront présenté une œuvre de valeur, mais
qui n'aura pas été couronnée.
L'Académie deviendra
propriétaire des dessins primés. Elle pourra publier tous les projets
présentés.
Quatorzième période triennale : 1er janvier 2002-31 décembre
2004, prolongée au 31 décembre 2005
(deuxième sélection janvier 2006)
Le programme détaillé pourra être obtenu au Secrétariat
de l'Académie.

Le prix Paul-Émile-Borduas
est la plus haute reconnaissance accordée à un artisan ou un artiste pour
l'ensemble de son œuvre dans le domaine des arts visuels, des métiers
d'art, de l'architecture et du design.
Les disciplines
reconnues aux fins de ce prix dans le domaine des arts visuels sont la
peinture, la sculpture, l'estampe, le dessin, l'illustration, la photographie,
les arts textiles, l'installation, la performance, la vidéo d'art et les
activités multidisciplinaires.
Les disciplines
reconnues aux fins de ce prix dans le domaine des métiers d'art se rapportent
à l'exercice d'un métier relié à la transformation du bois, du cuir, des
textiles, des métaux, des silicates ou de toute autre matière.
On ne peut
se porter soi-même candidat ou candidate à un Prix du Québec. Par contre,
des personnes, des groupes ou des organismes peuvent proposer une candidature
si elle satisfait aux conditions ci-dessous. Il s’agit de constituer un
dossier et de le faire parvenir au ministère de la Culture et des Communications.
Les prix consistent
en une bourse de 30 000 $ non imposable, une médaille en argent et un
parchemin. De plus, le gouvernement du Québec rend publiquement hommage
aux lauréates et aux lauréats des Prix du Québec. Cette année, la cérémonie
de remise des prix aura lieu à l'automne 2001.
La remise d’une
médaille aux lauréats des Prix du Québec est une tradition qui remonte
à 1977, année où le gouvernement du Québec a remplacé par ces prix les
Concours littéraire et scientifique instaurés en 1922 par Athanase David.
Jusqu’en 1994, les Prix du Québec (au nombre de neuf cette année-là) comportaient
chacun une médaille créée expressément pour la circonstance.
En 1995, le
ministère de la Culture et des Communications, en accord avec le ministère
de l’Industrie, du Commerce, de la Science et de la Technologie, alors
responsable du volet scientifique des Prix du Québec, décide de ramener
à deux le nombre des médailles, l’une pour les lauréats culturels, l’autre
pour les lauréats scientifiques. Rappelons que depuis 1984 chaque médaille
était réalisée en deux exemplaires, l’une étant remise au lauréat et l’autre
étant déposée dans la collection des arts décoratifs du Musée du Québec.
Dans le but
de renforcer le caractère symbolique des Prix du Québec et l'intégration
des dimensions culturelle et scientifique, les deux ministères responsables
ont décidé en 2001 de remettre la même médaille à tous les lauréats de
l'année. Cette médaille fait l'objet d'un concours de création annuel.
2001 : Le concours
de création de la médaille des Prix du Québec est actuellement ouvert.
À compter de cette année, les lauréats des prix culturels et scientifiques
recevront la même médaille.
L'invitation
à participer à ce concours d'adresse aux artistes professionnels en arts
visuels, particulièrement les sculpteures et les sculpteurs, de même qu'aux
artisanes et aux artisans joailliers.
Historique
des Prix du Quebec :
L'origine des Prix du
Québec remonte à 1922, année où furent créés les Concours littéraire et
scientifique sur l'initiative du secrétaire de la province, Athanase David.
Le prix David est alors
décerné pour une œuvre littéraire en particulier, et le prix scientifique,
pour un ouvrage de recherche. À partir de 1968, ces deux prix sont accordés
pour l'ensemble de l'œuvre d'un écrivain et pour la carrière d'un scientifique.
En 1977, pour refléter la diversité de la vie culturelle, sociale et scientifique
du Québec, le gouvernement instaure les Prix du Québec, cinq prix décernés
à des personnes en reconnaissance d'une carrière remarquable :
- le prix Athanase-David pour
la littérature;
- le prix Paul-Emile-Borduas
pour les arts visuels;
- le prix Denise-Pelletier
pour les arts d'interprétation;
- le prix Léon-Gérin pour
les sciences humaines;
- le prix Marie-Victorin pour
les sciences naturelles et le génie.
Puis, de 1980 à 1997, se sont
ajoutés les prix suivants :

pour le cinéma;
1992: le prix Gérard-Morisset
pour le patrimoine;
1993: le prix Wilder-Penfiels
pour le domaine biomédical;
1993: le prix Armand-Frappier

Ce
rendez-vous annuel est, depuis plus de dix ans déjà, l’occasion
pour l’industrie briquetière belge de nouer un contact privilégié
avec les établissements d’architecture … et dès
lors, avec les concepteurs et bâtisseurs de demain.
La
version 2004 du « Prix des Etudiants » est le résultat
d’une participation de seize établissements d’architecture
au concours. Le règlement de ce concours est simple : chaque école
désigne librement un lauréat sur base de critères
de créativité architecturale, d’innovation technique,
de considérations historiques, urbanistiques, sociales, …
Ce concours permet de révéler et de récompenser le travail d’étudiants
en architecture. Il ne s’agit nullement de mettre en compétition les différentes
écoles ou de comparer les enseignements, mais bien de permettre à chaque
lecteur de partager un peu du rêve et de l’imagination qui habitent l’esprit
de ces jeunes diplômés.
Chaque établissement d’architecture décerne le prix librement, selon ses
propres critères, à l’étudiant – ou groupe d’étudiants – qui a fait preuve
de créativité, a répondu au cadre urbanistique, a utilisé des techniques
de construction adaptées …chacun de ces aspects revêtant plus ou moins
d’importance d’un projet à l’autre |

Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence was created in 1986 by Simeon Bruner,
and was named in honor of his late father. The Award was created by Mr.
Bruner to foster a better understanding of the role of architecture in
the urban environment and has become one of America's leading forums for
the discussion of issues related to urban architecture, planning, and
revitalization. The Rudy Bruner Award has been recognized by the U.S.
Conference of Mayors, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,
and Environmental Design Research Associates.
The Rudy Bruner Award recognizes one Gold Medal Winner and four Silver
Medal winners in each bi-annual cycle. The Gold Medal Winner is awarded
$50,000, and each Silver Medalist $10,000. The Rudy Bruner Award is distinguished
from other award programs by its broad eligibility criteria, the multi-disciplinary
Selection Committee, and the detailed on-site evaluation of each finalist.
Each award cycle is documented in a book that includes in-depth case studies
of the winners and a distillation of the Selection Committee discussion.
The publications are available from the Bruner Foundation. Applications
are available through the Bruner Foundation office in the late summer
preceding the Award year, and are due in December. The application may
be submitted by anyone involved in the planning, development, or operation
of a project, including: a representative of city, county, state or federal
government; a developer; a design or planning professional; a community
or neighborhood group; an educational or cultural institution; or a business.
The Bruner Foundation welcomes a wide variety of applicants and projects.
The project must be a real place, not just a plan. Since site visits are
integral to the award process, the project must have been in operation
for a sufficient amount of time to demonstrate success.
The project must be located in the continental United States. It is not
feasible to conduct site visits at other locations. |

The
aim of the Finnish Wood Construction Prize is to promote timber architecture
and wood construction. The prize is awarded to a building or structure
that represents a high standard of timber architecture or uses wood in
a pioneering manner. Puuinformaatio (Wood Information) awards the prize
every two years, this year for the fifth time. The candidate constructions
for this year’s award must have been completed during 2000 or 2001.
This year, in an unusual turn of events, two Wood Construction Prizes
were awarded because two distinguished public buildings constructed with
wood were completed during the period. The awards go to the Sibelius Hall
in Lahti, completed in 2000, and the Kierik-kikeskus in Yli-Ii, completed
in 2001. These two buildings represent two very different construction
methods: the Sibelius Hall is an example of the advanced technology of
a public building, while the Kierikkikeskus heralds the renaissance of
log construction.
The Sibelius Hall was designed by Architects Kimmo Lintula and Hannu Tikka
(of the Architectural Design Firm Artto Palo Rossi TikkaOy), and the Kierikkikeskus
is the design of Architect, Professor Reijo Jallinoja. In its reasons
for awarding the prize to the Sibelius Hall, the Prize Committee takes
the view that the Hall has met with the technical and architectural expectations
placed on a large public building of wooden construction, and that it
has been found to be a concert hall of particularly good acoustics. The
Kierikkikeskus represents the new wave of large-scale log construction
and provides a wonderful environment for exhibiting archaeological objects
from the Stone Age, and for related activities. In addition, the Prize
Committee wanted to give an honourable mention to two architects who have
been promoting the creative use of wood in construction and architecture.
They are Eric Adlercreutz of Helsinki and Jukka Laurila of Oulu. Both
architects have designed several distinguished wooden buildings and have
used wood material in a delicate manner both for new buildings and for
renovation works. |

Istituito
dal Comune di Oderzo nel 1997, con l’intento di promuovere una riflessione
critica sul ruolo dell’architettura nella qualificazione dell’ambiente,
il Premio si assegna ogni anno ad architetture realizzate nelle regioni
del Triveneto.
Patrocinato dal Comune di Oderzo, dalla Provincia di Treviso e dall’Ordine
degli Architetti, il premio si avvale di una formula originale che affida
a una commissione di eminenti personalità del mondo della critica
e del progetto (Carlo Magnani, Sebastiano Brandolini, Fulvio Irace, Jordi
Querol Piera, Vittorio Savi) il vaglio delle proposte autonomamente pervenute.
Rivolto
al mondo degli architetti attivo nella regione del Triveneto, il Premio
Oderzo sviluppa, infatti un’interpretazione in chiave regionalistica
dell’architettura, proponendosi di rafforzare negli operatori del
progetto la consapevolezza di un’edilizia di qualità diffusa
in territori dalle specifiche caratteristiche urbanistiche e ambientali.
Contrapponendosi agli eccessi di una globalizzazione intesa come omologazione
del locale a modi e correnti imposte meccanicamente dall’esterno,
si riallaccia dunque alla più autentica tradizione dell’architettura
italiana, il cui “localismo” è intrinseco alla misura
storica delle “geografie” culturali da cui traggono vigore
le differenze che hanno reso riconoscibile ed universalmente apprezzata
l’architettura delle nostre città.
Con
una selezione di undici progetti (un 1° premio assoluto e 10 selezioni),
ricadenti nell’ambito delle più varie tipologie - dal parcheggio
sotterraneo all’alloggio domestico -, il
Premio conferma con originalità il programma nazionale di promozione
della qualità dell’architettura sostenuto in questi recentissimi
anni dalla Direzione Generale dell’Architettura (DARC)
con l’obiettivo di stimolare e rinnovare la creatività italiana
nella conformazione dell’ambiente antropizzato. |

Winner's prize: A bronze replica of a Cycladic sculpture
The
Copper in Architecture Awards promote and reward excellence in design
by architects and students, as well as craftsmanship by installers. To
be eligible, all entries must incorporate cladding, roofing or other architectural
elements of copper or copper alloys, such as bronze. Awards will be presented
at a ceremony in London in September 2005. All winning and commended projects
will feature in extensive press coverage, including a special supplement
in Architectural Review. A selection of entries will be displayed at the
presentation.
Innovation
Award
A discretionary award for projects demonstrating innovation in an area
of particular relevance to current design issues. All entries, in all
categories, will automatically be reviewed for this award by the jury.
Entries
are judged from photographs, drawings and other material submitted, by
a group selected from the following panel of architect judges:

The second Arts
Council/OPW architecture award - the Kevin Kieran Award will be given
in 2004.
The successful applicant will receive a bursary of 50,000 Euro and a
building contract by the OPW. Named after the late Kevin Kieran, architect,
tutor and former consultant to the Arts Council, this award aims to
support the artistic formation and career development of the architect
and to direct funding towards architectural excellence and innovation.
The award offers an emerging and gifted architect an opportunity to
develop and deliver a research project in the first instance.
Subsequently the architect will be contracted to design and run a building
for the Office of Public Works (OPW).
The Arts Council
is pleased to announce that Dominic Stevens has been awarded the Kevin
Kieran Award for 2005 - 2007. The value of the award is €50,000.
There are two aspects to the award: a research project and a contract
from the Office of Public Works (OPW).

Every
year, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) announces
the winners of the Irish Architecture Awards.
The purpose of the Irish Architecture Awards is to promote the quality
of current work by members at home and abroad. The receipt of an RIAI
Annual Award will not preclude a Triennial Award at a later date.
The RIAI invites RIAI and RSUA members and those eligible for RIAI membership
to submit projects which were certified ‘practically complete’
during the calender year 2005. The awards and selected entries will form
an exhibition, which it is expected to be shown in Dublin, Galway, Waterford,
Cork, Limerick, Belfast, Kilkenny, London, Wexford, Cavan, Tralee, Dundalk,
Castlebar, Sligo, Enniskillen, Mullingar, Letterkenny and Plan Expo. The
Irish architecture Awards are an important element in the Institute’s
campaign to communicate to the public the variety and quality of contemporary
Irish Architecture.
Only projects designed by RIAI and RSUA members shall be eligible and
those eligible for RIAI membership. Any member of the Institute may nominate
any project or projects for consideration, including any designed by that
architect. The Council may nominate projects for consideration.
The Jury shall be appointed by Council and shall not take part in the
assessment of projects in their own region.
The
Award consist of a plaque prepared by the Institute and specifying the
Category, the name of the building and architect. Best Building in the
Landscape Works shall be defined to include new buildings, refurbishment,
conservation, restoration, interior design, amenity projects and landscaping.
The Office of Public Works is sponsoring a Special Award for an Accessible
Building.
The Heritage Council are sponsoring a Special Award for Best Practice
in a Conservation / Restoration Project.
The awards and submissions are used as a basis for selection of projects
for publication in Architecture Ireland. The Awards and exhibited entries
will be published.

Best Practice in a Conservation / Restoration Project - Sponsored by the
