3. Symbiosis

Assume an attitude of symbiosis
that doesn't conflict with the natural environment of Rokko.
Respect nature by saving energy and resources.

Wells and Ground water 27
  • The distance between the Rokko mountain range and the sea is not very great, the land is steep sloped, and groundwater runs in layer coarse gravel near the surface. Because of this, despite its proximity to the sea, salt-water infiltration is not a problem and, in fact, many residents and some parks use well water.
  • Underground water systems could be connected with the surface to allow for water fountains in parks, brook development, or the creation of more wells.

Winds from the mountains and the sea, calm days, and storms from Rokko mountain 28
  • Depending on the time on day, there can be gentle winds from the mountains or from the sea, and, at times, storms blow down from Mount Rokko.
  • In winter, cold, fierce storms blow down from northwestern Mount Rokko as immortalized in the Hanshin Tigers team song.
  • Wind patterns and routes must be considered to avoid wind damage.

Saving energy, Saving resources 29
  • Create an eco-friendly town that pays careful attention to saving resources and energy.
  • Promote the use of rain and gray water collection systems

Wildlife Habitats 30
  • Even within urban areas, various living things coexist with people.
  • Wildlife seeks food, companion species, and a place to live hidden from public view. If wildlife cannot live in a city, perhaps it is not very livable for people either.
  • One-hectare nature parks within which the total ecosystem is considered.
  • Create a town where people can take walks with the dogs.
